从2月11日起，旅美西藏人和来自美国许多州的支持者在首都华盛顿进行为期一周的“为西藏而动员” (Mobilization for Tibet) 活动。每日在华盛顿的中国大使馆前示威是这次活动的一部分内容。

在过去三天中，已有七名和平示威者被逮捕。他们都是在中国大使馆门口向里试图传递写有“西藏自由”的中、英文信时，遭到大使馆向安全警察 控告示威者“擅自闯入其属地”而被逮捕
